Bathroom Renovation
A walk through our bathroom renovation with details on where to find everything from tile to soap dish.
When deciding to create a blog for our home and our family, I hesitated. I wanted to write about our adoption, our children, our house. But our little home seemed empty without our children. Then I lost my brother and our adoption was put on hold. I told myself I had nothing to offer. But it's when the voices are trying their best to tell you lies that you must tell them to sit down and SHUT.UP. because you are probably getting really close to the exact thing you are suppose to be doing.
So- I may not have a clue where this blog will take me... or the big picture... but I decided to silence the voices and accept the small amount of light that was showing me my next step... Little House of Light.
DEMO DAY! I would almost say it was the best part of renovating.... who doesn't love destroying things and putting their toilet in the bathtub?! I definitely had a lot of stored up emotions to take out on that ugly tile. Unfortunately demo ended up taking twice the time it should have because of the way it was built a very long time ago. But it was worth it in the end to have our first big home project behind us and WE LOVE IT!
The light fixture was the first thing I picked out that ended up dictating the color we would use for all of the hardware type items. We got it as a Christmas gift but you can find one here. Amazon came to the rescue for several things. Do you know how expensive faucets are?!? I feel like a real adult now that I know the chunk of change spent on the luxury of washing my hands and brushing my teeth. This faucet on the other hand was NOT expensive and it was exactly what I wanted. A clean, minimalist look for my minimal budget. Speaking of minimal... this mirror! I was so nervous about ordering a mirror I had never seen but it is beautiful with clean lines... and I am obsessed! The towel bar, handles and knobs were all Amazon finds as well and I am so thankful they ended up matching so perfectly. I have attached additional links at the bottom of this post.
Now for the real beauty... the vanity. Originally we wanted to buy a slab of marble and paint the original cabinets. We soon realized after buying the marble, the sink and having it installed... we could basically pay for a whole new cabinet. I found this one on sale at Home Depot... changed the handles and VIOLA...perfect! The tile is from Lowe's. We knew we wanted white and decided to go with dark grey grout to make it pop... and worry less about the grout getting dirty. My step dad came and taught us how to lay tile and it turned out beautifully!
Lastly... accessories. I wanted a pop of color to balance the black/white and keep it a little more... happy. I found the rug at a boutique in Fayetteville, AR called Grey Dog Boutique. They have beautiful vintage rugs (and clothes, girls) at great prices. You can shop their instagram and they ship! Score! The shower curtain is the same one the sellers had that I loved. Target was sold out but I found a brand new one on eBay... I love the internet! The jewelry "D" tray adds color and a personal touch as well as the soap and soap tray which were gifts. They all came from Anthropologie which has several similar items. I have a weird thing with bathroom trashcans... so I bought a cute basket instead from Home Goods as well as the basket for the vanity. The last thing added to the space is the macrame plant holder... another great Amazon find. It added a little something fun to an otherwise blank, white space. It was the last thing I added to the room... and I was excited to see so much hard work come to completion.
There are a few more photos after the links. This post is not sponsored but I will receive a small commission from items bought through my Amazon links that will go to help fund our adoption.
Love + Light, Laurie
