IKEA play kitchen hack
We had so much fun making Alba’s kitchen for Christmas. Jon said it was practice for our kitchen renovation. ha. I was inspired by Kandis Marino’s Ikea Hack to create this amazing open concept kitchen using the IKEA DUKTIG play kitchen. I loved the floating shelves and wooden stovetop. I decided not to paint any of the wooden pieces. I liked the natural wood of the original piece, and it matched the stove and shelves nicely. We spray painted the sink white and faucet black. After the paint was dry, we under mounted the sink to give the counter a cleaner look.
Picking out accessories was by far my favorite part. Many of the dishes I wanted were either sold out before Christmas or more than what I wanted to spend at the moment. Instead I found some plastic dinnerware from Target and Amazon. They worked out perfectly… and bonus that they can actually be used.
I have always been a fan of mixing old with new. One way I did that here was finding baskets from our local Goodwill for her to use as shopping baskets. These are also great baskets for “foraging” outside. I found the cutest rattan cup for her utensils and little wooden canisters for the open shelves.
I found these handmade fruits from Odin and Parker. They have so many beautifully hand crafted toys in their shop. Milton + Goose make gorgeous wooden food sets like this dairy play food set. I can’t wait to add more food and small appliances. I also have my eye on some pots and pans.
This was such a fun project to work on together for our sweet girl. Alba is going to enjoy “cooking” and “baking” in her little kitchen for years to come.
