Hi.

Welcome to my blog! I hope you find a little light here!

We have been planning on building our fireplace since day one of moving into this home. My hope through the summer was that we would have it built in time to decorate for the holidays. We did it!

We started by picking out the electric fireplace. From there we decided on the dimensions of the surrounding frame and mantel. It is 7 ft wide and 10 inches deep. Next was figuring out what tile to use. This was a little bit harder of a decision for me, but I am so happy with the Cloe tile by Bedrosians. We decided to do the tile vertically to give a different effect than the traditional subway tile look.

Jon did such a good job figuring out the framing and exactly how it needed to be built for the fireplace. The mantel essentially works like a top to a box. It has a top piece and the front and side pieces all glued together. It sits directly on top of the frame. This also hides the top part of the tile so that we did not have to worry about a clean straight line or cutting the tile at the top. We did this so it can be easily removed to get to the plug and the box to the TV.

I did the tile and grout while Alba was at school. Teamwork makes the dream work. I am so happy with how it turned out and that I have a proper place to hang our stockings this year.
